Transforming your self-confidence one morning routine at the time

by | 0 comments

Have you ever admired someone from across the room because they seemed so carefree and quickly got others attention? I used to do that too. Self-confidence seemed like a mystery to me, and I  couldn’t seem to figure it out. Until one day I had a light bulb moment and it became crystal clear for me.
If you want to build self-confidence you have to practice it regularly. In other words, you need a self-confidence routine.
So I began experimenting with valuable knowledge I’d learned from reading self-help books. Then I came up with a morning routine that kicked ass.
My morning routine can be done within 5 minutes so you can stay confident for the rest of your day.

Transforming your self-confidence one morning routine at the time

When my eyes catch the sunlight in the morning, I push myself up to sit, cross my legs and close my eyes. I take 3 deep breaths so my belly blows up like a little balloon. This helps me to “come home”  and connect with myself.  Then I visualize what I want to happen during my day.
I visualize myself …
– showing up confident to a meeting, telling my honest opinion without doubting myself.
– coming home from work and making healthy choices by choosing a run over being a couch potato.
– being aware of my thoughts and feelings so how I can stay connected to myself all day.
When I start my day like this, I laugh a little lighter, smile a little brighter and I walk a little sassier.

Why do I need a morning routine?

I know, I know… creating a routine sounds boring and hard, like algebra. And I’m sure you’ve heard this a gazillion times. But if you want to achieve anything in your life, you need to stay consistent.

That’s the most important skill to develop.

It took me 4 years of failing to stay confident, to figure out. If only I had known that consistency was the key to staying confident. Then I would’ve saved my self a lot of money on self-help books and spend them on classic black trousers (which I looove).

“But why does it need to be a morning routine?”

Because when you connect one action to another, it’s easier to make it a habit.

Let’s say your routine is saying “I love myself” 5 times every time you brush your teeth. Over time your brain will remember that. So  when you pick up your toothbrush, you’ll automatically say “I love myself” 5 times. You gotta admit that’s pretty cool, huh?

You can use this knowledge to create powerful habits, at any time in the day you want.  But  in this case, I want you to tie this habit to waking up. This way you lay a foundation for yourself so you can feel connected and confident.

So why not doing it at night when you’re getting cozy in bed wearing your pajamas and your sleeping mask?

Because then your day is over! You want to manifest all these things before you start your day so it can lay the foundation for a successful day. You wouldn’t want all that to go to waste in your dreams. That’d be silly.

Creating your mantra

“But how do I know what’s important for me and what to visualize?” I’m so glad you asked, but first, if you want to know more about mantras, read this post!

You don’t want to visualize a bunch of random stuff. You wanna choose something you know that you need right now. For example, yesterday I didn’t feel good in my body. I’ve been eating too many sweets and I have a hard time breaking the cycle (cinnamon roles just taste so goooood…). So for a couple of days my mantra will be “I eat healthy and nutritious food”. See how my mantra is reflecting what I want to happen?

You need to choose something that will support your wellbeing. This can be hard at first, so don’t beat yourself up about it.

What do you need in your life right now to support yourself? Is it better self confidence?  Self love? Do you want to be healthier?  Write down 1-2 things that you want and need in your life right now.

Example: I want to go to bed earlier. I want to be healthier.

Now you can craft your personal mantra. Remember that your mantra needs to be positive. So if you want to be on time, don’t say “I don’t want to be late anymore” say “I am on time”. And if your want to be healthier don’t say “I don’t want to eat junk food anymore” say “I make healthy choices”.

How does you mantra look?

How to turn your mantra into visualization?

Mantras are great to repeat to yourself during your day. But if you want them to work really powerfully, you have to visualize them.

Visualization is imagining a desired outcome (or at least that’s my definition it).

The goal for visualization is to become what you want to achieve. If you want to become more confident. You’d visualize yourself in a situation where you were confident. You’d  feel how calm  you are trusting yourself. How good it feels to have a strong sense of self.

How will this help?

Fun fact: You brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. So if you imagine yourself being confident, your brain will believe it.

That’s why it’s easy to get sweaty palms walking home alone at night even if there is no danger around. It’s because you imagine Michael Meyers from Halloween coming after you. Even though there’s no chance of that. You brain simply can’t tell the difference.

Before you begin your visualization I want you to think about how you want your mantra to play out. If your mantra is being on time, you could visualize yourself setting your clock 30 minutes earlier than usual. Having your clothes ready and your breakfast planned ahead. You could also imagine yourself getting ready in the morning without distractions. And then lastly getting to work  in time.

Now, I’d love to hear from you. How does your mantra sound and what are you going to visualize every morning? How will this change your current morning routine?
